Above is a film that was created to elevate the voices of our elders in aged care.
During my time in Canberra, I gave a presentation where some team members of Meridian ACT joined, and I was fortunate enough to be invited to learn more about the work they are doing. I am eternally grateful for the invitation to learn more about their work to support LGBTI* older adults in the ACT region.
Before I arrived in Australia, I heard about Silver Rainbow which reminded me of an organization back in Germany that has created a seal to provide more inclusive care for the LGBTI* community. Therefore, when I heard about Meridian ACT I was very excited to learn more about the work they are doing since I was not able to connect with Silver Rainbow.
Meridian ACT gave me an overview of the work they are doing within the region and organization. They also shared with me a film called Silver Stars, which I found deeply inspiring as it captures the voices of those living in aged care who are part of the LGBTI* community. It is only through elevating the voices of our seniors where we can begin to shift the narrative of aging in aged care. We must continue to work hard to listen to unmet needs that are occurring with the space and see how can we do better and ensure we are truly provided a space of becoming and not conforming.
